NSMB Validation Cases
Shock–shock interaction
Unsteady interaction between the bow shocks of two offset blunt bodies, compared directly with the experimental flow visualisation.
Matched field of view
Experiment and NSMB, aligned for comparison
The bodies occupy the same visual positions in both frames, making the bow-shock curvature, interaction region and downstream wakes easier to compare directly.
Experiment

Experimental flow visualisation used as the spatial reference.
NSMB
Six unsteady NSMB states shown with the original scalar-field colour palette.
Solver history
Residual and boundary convergence
Normalized L2 residue and far-field boundary movement over the recorded time steps.

The flow residual settles after the main transient while the moving far-field boundary reaches its lower convergence level earlier.
Conclusion
Comparable interaction topology
The aligned views expose the same defining topology: two detached bow shocks, their interaction between the bodies, and the paired downstream wakes. This is a qualitative flow-structure comparison, supported by the solver convergence history rather than a claim of pixel-for-pixel agreement.
